SkyEcho2

SkyEcho2 is one of the most popular portable EC devices today is manufactured by uAvinoix and has a secondary receiver capability on 978 MHz, which makes it possible to process and display TIS-B traffic on your EFB alongside direct ADS-B ‘IN’ contacts. To enable this functionality – go to your settings page (192.168.4.1) and make sure to enable UAT as per screenshot on the next slide. You most likely will need to take additional steps to properly configure your EFB. See below sections for examples of SkyDemon and ForeFlight EFBs.

SkyDemon

SkyDemon is one of the most popular EFB apps for VFR flying in the UK. It has the capability of working with a number of portable EC devices, however some additional steps are required to ensure traffic is displayed correctly.

To do so – enable traffic in the app settings and also enable “display callsign”. This way you will be able to distinguish traffic received via TIS-B due to # sign in front of the callsign. See images below for further guidance.

ForeFlight

ForeFlight is a popular EFB originating from the USA, but growing it’s popularity in the UK due to convenient functionalities for IFR operations. To receive and display traffic correctly on your ForeFlight screen – please ensure first that your hardware is correctly configured and display of traffic is enabled in your settings. In order to distinguish TIS-B traffic from direct ADS-B reception – you can tap the displayed target and see “TIS-B” in the description.

Other EC hardware and EFB software

Please refer to your manual. You should be looking to enable 978 MHz reception, which is also often referred to as UAT. Your particular system might, however, refer to UAT as FIS-B and/or TIS-B. Some EFBs might not explicitly distinguish between direct reception of ADS-B target and TIS-B.
